My Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Any author who can combine three clichéd tropes and make me forget about them completely through quality writing, engaging characters and a riveting storyline certainly earns a measure of respect from me. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that this book isn’t titled “My Best Friend's Much Younger, Virginal Sister.” However, I should be really ticked off with Ms. Wood for not only leaving us hanging (yes, on the edge a great big cliff!) but hitting us with a pretty shocking development at the end of “Bad Behavior.” Fortunately, we have less than a month until the conclusion of Jameson’s and Emma's story.
Jameson and Asher are complete opposites yet have been best friends from a very early age. Asher grew up in the affluent part of town and was college bound with a nice, big trust fund in his future. Jameson grew up on the wrong side of town, abandoned by drug addict parents, and dropped out of high school to raise his two younger brothers. When things got especially tough financially, Asher always showed up with things like gift cards he was given but couldn’t use, a beat up second-hand car he didn’t need or a place for Jameson and his brothers to live. Jameson owes Asher more than he could ever repay, which is why he’s determined to do the only thing Asher has ever asked of him: stay away from Asher's younger sister, Emma.
As you might suspect, that doesn’t work so well for Jameson, especially when Emma sets her sights on him. His struggle is beautifully realistic as loyalty and friendship clash with need and desire, but then add to that an emotion Jameson has never experienced before that just might be love, and his guilt, turmoil and self-directed anger make for an authentic, evocative read. There’s just something about this guy I couldn’t help but love. Emma also managed to work her way into my heart with her strength, determination and maturity. Truly, I adore all of these characters, so part of me is glad there’s another book to come. I’ve not begun to get my fill of them, and we would have missed out on a lot if their story had been condensed into one book. If you like your romance with endearing but realistic characters, sizzling chemistry with a side of emotion, and a storyline that keeps you glued to the page, you'll love Emma's and Jameson's story.
