New Book By Vivian Wood Is So Much More Than Pretend!

Image
Pretend I'm Yours by Vivian Wood Blurb   Heartbroken, destroyed, and on the edge of despair. That’s how I felt for two years after my wife died, leaving me all alone with our baby.   I sucked it up and kept going for my little girl… but I wasn’t living. I was only existing. Then I met Larkin, my gorgeous blonde neighbor. She’s got curves in the right places, and toffee-colored eyes that beg me to do unspeakable things to her. I don’t want to want her. I don’t want to look at her, and I definitely don’t want to long for her.   I want to avoid her. Except… I can’t. Everywhere I go, everything I do, I am brought back to Larkin. And when we finally cave, falling into bed together... It’s fucking explosive and passionate and deep. Soon enough, it’s as essential as breathing. I’m starting to fall in love with Larkin… but it was never supposed to turn into this.   If I want a future with Larkin, I have to figure out how to let go of t...

Simmer by Stephanie Rose Brings The Heat!

Image
Title: Simmer Author: Stephanie Rose Genre: Contemporary Romance Release Date: May 16, 2018 Blurb Simmer (verb): to stew gently below or just at the boiling point; to be in a state of incipient development My life was always at a simmer… only stewing, never going anywhere. I was left to fend for myself when it came to affection or love, so I learned to go without.  I refused to let them see how broken and lonely I was; it was much easier to hide behind a false reality. I didn't want anyone's pity. I didn't need it. Pity wouldn't put food on the table or keep a roof over our heads. That was all me. Now, I have a second chance at a dream long forgotten. It demands hard work and sacrifice—with absolutely no distractions. A recipe I already know all too well, raising a daughter on my own.  Drew Kostas is everything I’ve ever wanted but couldn't let myself have. He’s younger, gorgeous, charming—and relentless....

Soft Wild Ache by Vivian Lux

Image
These characters hit me harder than a lot do, and they're now permanently part of my heart. Rachel's character is refreshingly unique for a romance heroine, having been raised in a sheltered environment bordering on cultish, and it resonated with me. I was pretty sheltered, growing up in an ultra-conservative home, where ladies were to act as ladies, men were the final authority, and great emphasis was placed on eternal destiny. I saw Rachel's family as mine on steroids and then magnified one hundred percent. Watching her find her way in the "secular" world brought to mind many enlightenments I experienced once I left home, so I had no trouble empathizing with her character and feeling my way through her experiences. Vivian Lux has quickly impressed me with her talent and skill, and is on my list of top ten authors, but she outdid herself with this book. The give and take between Beau and Rachel, and the way Beau was so tender, caring and patient made for a sw...

Royally Pucked by Pippa Grant

Image
If you haven't yet read Pippa Grant, you're really missing out! With titles like Stud in the Stacks , Mr. McHottie , The Pilot and the Puck-Up, and her latest, Royally Pucked,   (available 4/6/18) this author is either slightly deranged, incredibly clever, or maybe a bit of both.  The series is loosely based on hockey-playing twin brothers, Zeus and Aries, their sister, friends and teammates. Zeus and Aries are gentle giants with unique, memorable personalities and shenanigans somehow seem to surround them. One thing is sure. You've never had a reading experience like Ms. Grant delivers. I've read a lot of rom-coms, but her books are an entire family, interactive experience.  Provided you're reading in the company of family. My experience went something like this. BIL:  What are you laughing at? Me:  Err . . . <shows book titles to sister> Sister: (Who does zero novel reading, anymore) 😲 BIL:  Are you on Facebook or reading? Me: ...

The Problem With Pugs by AG Henley

Image
A.G. Henley may be new to romantic comedy, with her Love and Pets series, but she's certainly made a name for herself in the Young Adult/Fantasy genre. The first book in her Brilliant Darkness series, The Scourge , has over 500 reviews on Amazon and over 3,500 ratings on Goodreads. It was a Library Journal Self-e Selection and a Next Generation Inde Book Award Finalist. I'm not actually sure how I came across this author. I obtained a free copy of the prequel to the Love and Pets series, Love, Pugs and Other Problems, and promptly fell in love.  I instantly connected with the heroine, Amelia, who thought her boyfriend was going to propose, but instead left her and the pug, Doug, to pursue a business venture in Bali. The Problem With Pugs starts with Amelia and Doug now living in her sister's apartment having a weekly Skype session with the estranged boyfriend. Amelia is trying to convince herself that she still actually has a boyfriend when in reality all she has is ...

Breakaway by AM Johnson

Image
BLURB As Tampa Bay's star center, Mark Carmelo's life was hockey, and after a bitter and public break up, all he wanted to do was focus on the game.   Until he saw her. The one that got away. The one he thought he'd never see again. For thirteen years, Stevie West drowned in her lackluster life. Recently divorced from her “roommate” with passionless benefits, she was ready to start over. On her own. Until she ran into him.   The same man she'd met one year ago. The temptation that had finally given her the courage to find herself again.   When lightning strikes twice, there’s no way to deny the chemistry it creates. But with both of them still nursing old wounds, Mark and Stevie will have to find a way around the other's defenses, a way to breakaway and score the one thing they never expected… love. MY REVIEW Mark Caramelo has kept his focus on hockey since his public, humiliating breakup. Then he meets Stevi...

Afterburn by Amy Knupp

Image
Have you read Amy Knupp? I recently found her and read Firestorm , the fourth book in her Island Fire series. If you're like me and every error or typo is as jarring as a pothole, you'll enjoy the smooth, freshly paved reading road of Amy's books. On top of being meticulous about her finished product, she's a talented writer and gifted storyteller. For the second time, I'm impressed with how seamlessly she weaves together several subplots, resolving them all beautifully. Afterburn is the fifth book in the series and I loved this one! It's a story of opposites and contrasts, of pain, loss and resentments, and of growth, fulfillment and redemption. Definitely a five-star read, as I explain in my review. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mercedes has a long history of taking care of the people in her life – her mother, her sister, her ailing grandmother and the women who come to the shelter where she volunteers. When a pregnant teenager, Gemma, comes to the full shelter, Mercedes off...

Knox by Lane Hart

Image
Lane Hart knows heart. And humor, and smexy, and sports romance. From her Playing Dirty series to her Cocky Cage Fighters, to her latest Out of the Cage series, we can always count on her to deliver an emotionally driven story with plenty of heat and a good dose of humor. Although her characters are often in their 20's, her storylines are so compelling that I'm completely drawn in and I rarely consider their age while reading. Knox is young - like old enough to vote but not old enough to drink - and yet life has given him experience and wisdom far beyond his years. All three of the guys in this series have had a rough life, but I think Knox touched me the most.  You'll see why in my review of this five-star read.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “I came into the world with a great big hole right smack dab in the center of my soul.” With the very first sentence of this book, Knox owned me, heart and soul. So tragically damaged from his parents abandoning him at his birth, he has never known lo...

Firestorm by Amy Knupp

Image
This is my first book by Amy Knupp and I can't say enough good things about her writing! Heart felt with tons of emotion, it' clear this story is carefully, lovingly crafted. It's also edited and proofed by professionals who are attentive and meticulous. The storyline is complex yet flows easily, covering all the plot points and tying things together beautifully. The characters are well thought out, deep, multilayered and endearingly human. I give Firestorm five smoldering, heart warming stars in my review, below. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The early copy I read of this book is my first by this author and I’m so glad I found her! Not only is the storyline gripping and the characters wonderfully complex, the story is skillfully constructed and extremely well edited. Joe and Faith both have long family histories with fire fighting. Her father is the fire chief, and Joe's father was chief before Faith's father. Joe is a captain with his eye on becoming chief one day, and Faith is ...

Dirty Trick by Mickey Miller

Image
The third book in Mickey Miller's Ballers series is finally here! Dirty Trick gets five exciting, entertaining stars and you can get your copy here  (intro price of only 99 cents!). ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We first met Eva Napleton in her brother Jake's book, Playing Dirty, and I was glad to see this feisty, sassy spitfire get her own book. Eva works as a psychologist for the DEA and everyone thinks of her as the “good girl.” There’s a bit of a bad girl dying to come out and play, and one night Eva let’s her alter-ego out, introduces herself as Alexa, and has the time of her life with a sexy, tattooed bad boy named Corbin. Weeks after sneaking out of his hotel room, who does Eva come face to face with? Corbin. And not just anywhere. At her job! If that’s not a big enough disaster, Eva learns Corbin is an ex drug dealing con who's now working with the DEA to take down the biggest drug lord in the area in exchange for a reduced prison term. To add insult to injury, Eva has to work under...
