MY REVIEW

Overall, this was a fantastic story, but I’ve waited a few days to write the review because I have mixed feelings about it. The storyline was riveting and action packed, and the characters were amazing. I easily connected with both Grace and Ian – their trials, challenges and brokenness, and was compelled to keep reading to find out how things worked out.

My issue is with the writing style. Between omitted articles and pronouns at the beginning of sentences to multiple paragraphs of only a word or two back to back, my reading experience was less than seamless and somewhat stilted. I can only assume the author chose this style as either a gimmick or to give added emphasis, but it took extra effort on my part to read through the book. It’s really a shame, because her ability to craft a story is phenomenal and her prose were otherwise poetic, so her talent speaks for itself without any other affectation. Jackson is an incredibly popular author, so I’m clearly in the minority with this opinion.

It’s entirely possible the writing style won’t be an issue for other readers and I wholeheartedly recommend this book, if that’s the case. Even for those like me, who prefer effortless reading, I would still suggest giving this book a shot because the story is extraordinary, and I would hate for readers to miss out on it. The storyline and character development are some of the best I’ve read recently, and Ian and Grace's story will touch any reader's heart.  So give it a read and let me know what you think.  Until next time, dear reader
