A southern small town where family bonds are unbreakable, Tennessee whiskey, wrong-side-of-the-tracks romance and a hero that makes me swoon all over myself? Yes, please!! The Becker boys pulled me right in and had me ready to pack the car to move to Stratford. This is the setup for Noah and Ruby Grace's romance, aside from the fact that there's everything wrong with these two being together.
As the affluent and pious citizens of Stratford like to say, those Becker boys are “nothing but trouble,” and Ruby Grace is the mayor's daughter. Ruby Grace is practically southern royalty, and Noah has a hot, dirty job raising barrels at the distillery. Noah is nearly ten years older than Ruby Grace, and if that’s not enough, Ruby Grace is getting married in six weeks.
Ruby Grace and Noah meet again when Ruby Grace goes to the distillery to buy her fiancé a one-of-a-kind barrel of whiskey for a wedding present. Noah can't believe the read-headed beauty with legs for miles is the same freckled kid who used to kick the back of his pew in church all those years ago. Although Ruby Grace is only nineteen, living her life for others and setting aside her wishes and dreams so the people she loves will succeed has given her wisdom beyond her years. But Noah looks beyond the buffed, polished, proper and put-together surface and sees clear to the heart of Ruby Grace. Oh my heart, y'all, Noah is the ultimate book boyfriend! Their relationship is an exquisitely torturous, delicious, slow burn, but Noah's love is everything we all dream of – patient, kind, longsuffering and selfless. If any guy ever deserved to get the girl, it's Noah.
Some authors tell a story, but a truly talented author creates a world. A world that assaults the reader's senses and entrenches her so completely in the story that the characters are forever in her heart. With beautiful sunsets, close-knit families and a colorful cast of supporting characters, this is the world Steiner creates, and I never wanted to leave! I loved every aspect of this book, down to the smallest detail -- from the gossipy citizens and a loveable, hilarious, meddling octogenarian to the most memorable wedding the good folks of Stratford have ever seen. With a dose of angst, a sprinkle of humor and a great big bunch of heart, this book held me captive from beginning to end. I haven't begun to have my fill of this book world or the Becker boys, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
