My Review 
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book, with all of its angst and emotion, twisted and tore my heart then filled it to bursting, yet leaving an unsettled undercurrent behind. I adore the charming, unique premise and the storyline kept me glued to the page through every unexpected twist. Malachy is one of the most complex characters I’ve ever read, and not a little confusing, and his story with Rory takes a few Machiavellian and debauched turns. The imagery is moving and beautiful, the storytelling is mesmerizing, and the writing is brilliantly poetic more times than not. Despite my unresolved feelings, this story is absolutely five-star worthy. 

Mal and Rory share an otherworldly twenty-four hours together when an eighteen-year-old Rory travels to Ireland to visit the grave of a father she never knew. Although the timing is off for them, they execute a contract promising that if they ever cross paths again, they'll do whatever it takes to be together. Eight years later, Malachy is in New York and Rory's boss assigns her to spend two months in Ireland with Mal photographing his song-writing process with the rock star who will record the songs on his next album. Although it may seem that fate has intervened, Malachy's motives for working with Rory have nothing to do with love, romance, or fulfilling an old contract. 

The downside of this book are the secrets, lies and thirst for revenge, but wow, do they ever make the story fascinating. There is also cheating and an issue of dubious consent, so if these are a concern, you may want to pass on this one and pick up a different book from this very talented writer. The upside though is the delightfully creative storytelling from multiple POVs (including a napkin, a cow, a candy bar, and a voice or two from beyond the grave), the beautiful, angsty, hypnotizing love story, and the elements of kismet, destiny and influence from the hereafter. 

Reading this book is one part train wreck, one part sex, drugs and rock and roll (without the rock & roll) and one part emotional, exhilarating, hard-won happy ending. It was impossible to put down and I read it in one sitting, and I’m sure these characters will be stirring around in my head for weeks to come. Malachy, with his charm, brokenness, pain he wears like armor and his big squishy heart has left his mark on my heart, and Rory is a heroine I can’t stop cheering for. So weigh the pros and cons on this one for yourself, but one thing is certain. Once you read it, Mal and Rory's story is one you'll never forget. Until next time, dear reader
