An Imperfect Heart PRINT-FOR-WEB
The heart is exquisite.
You’ll never hear anyone wax poetic over an organ quite like they do the heart.
When you’re lost in the world? Follow your heart.
When your love for someone is unwavering, unparalleled and unprecedented? You give them your heart.
As a lead pediatric cardiac surgeon, I knew better than anyone that the heart is equally as powerful as it is delicate.
The heart giveth just as easily as it taketh away.
And until the day Kelly Potter darkened my doorway that was all just part of the job.
She rolled in like a slow evening storm, fierce and beautiful, fighting for the life of her unborn child.
It should have been business as usual.
I was a doctor.
Her child the patient.
But Kelly was more.
She was the one who got away.
I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.
It didn’t matter what the rules were.
For once, I was listening to my heart.

Here is my five-star review. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The advance copy I read of this book is my first by this author, and I can clearly see that I’ve been missing out!  The author's style is comfortable and laid back, so that even amidst any drama and angst, there was an undercurrent of calm confidence that everything would resolve well. With an unborn baby afflicted by a heart defect, there were plenty of tense moments for the characters, but the thread of hope was undeniable. I adored every aspect of Kelly, from her strength, concern and determination to her no-nonsense and often humorous interactions with the hero, her friends and the two matriarchs. I really liked Anthony, and actually more than liked him, but I didn’t quite fall for him. It seemed contradictory to his strong, kind, supportive, protective persona that he ghosted at critical times. I think the point was to show that the accomplished doctor who holds and heals children’s hearts had residual damage from past events that needed healing, and it definitely made for insightful reading.

This is a book that highlights the human condition, with all its pain, suffering, grief and loss but also hope, faith, determination, joy and happiness.  The premise is refreshingly unique, so the whole book stands apart while the characters find a place in the reader's heart, putting her emotions through the wringer and leaving a memorable mark on her soul. The book stands out for its originality, but the author then backs that up with a beautiful writing style, easy readability, flawed but endearing main characters and colorful, quirky, loveable secondary characters. I will absolutely read more from this author (running to 1-Click the first two books) and wholeheartedly recommend this book for a touching, uplifting, heartwarming read.
