Anyone who knows me knows I have a way too big soft spot for raccoons, so any book that begins with an interaction with a raccoon, thieving bandit though he may be, has my attention immediately. That was my first thought, followed by, “Where has this amazing author with her laugh-out-loud, hysterical writing been all my life and how is this the first time I'm reading her work?!” I took a chance on reading an early copy of this book, and it paid of big time! This one has a perfect balance of all the elements that make up a terrific romance, and it definitely won’t be the last book I read from this author.
Zoe is a bit clumsy and has a problem with hilarious babbling when she’s nervous, and Tim, the hot cop, makes her just a tad nervous. It doesn’t help that every time she runs into him something awkward or embarrassing is involved. So you don’t get the wrong impression of Zoe, she’s retiring from the military and opening a bookstore in her home town. She’s strong, independent and determined, and also has a bit of youngest child syndrome, which just makes her all the more determined to make her bookstore a success.
Tim first meets Zoe when she's stuck. Really stuck, and after an altercation with the aforementioned raccoon. Mr. Protect and Serve Cop maintains his professionalism on the outside while he's laughing hysterically on the inside. There's just something about Zoe that draws him in, and the attraction is mutual. But when you put a protective fixer together with self-reliant, independent woman, there are bound to be a few bumps in the road.
This book is the right mix of everything – endearing characters, engaging storyline, hysterically funny situations, great tension and chemistry between the main characters, a good balance of internal and external conflict, winning secondary characters, and a nice balance between light hearted and heartfelt. If you’re looking for a romance that’s delightfully entertaining, laugh-out-loud funny and gives the heartstrings some good tugging, you’ll love this engaging, hilarious, evocative, heartwarming read!

Tarina is
an award winning author who has spent her entire life in and around the
military — first as a dependent and then as an enlisted Air Force Member. Her
debut novel, Stitched Up Heart, released in September 2016. She draws heavily
from her own military experience when crafting stories and characters.
Tarina is still active duty and a single mom of six-year-old twins. She can be found in random places around the world while she tries to get her twins interested in “another castle”. Her favorite hobby is sleep. She has delusions of retiring from the military and being a stay-at-home mom.
