Fatal Invasion -- the Latest in the Amazing Fatal Series by Marie Force

A brutal home invasion. Two small traumatized survivors who may have witnessed the horror. Lieutenant Sam Holland has never worked a case quite like this one, in which her eyewitnesses are five-year-old twins. But when Sam steps up in a big way for them, she risks her heart as much as her career.

While Sam and her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano, go to battle in more ways than one for her tiny witnesses, her colleague Sergeant Tommy “Gonzo” Gonzales battles his own demons. Months of unbearable grief and despair come to a head in an unimaginable way that threatens Gonzo’s status with the department and his relationship with his fiancĂ©e, Christina.

With trouble both at the precinct and on the case, Sam struggles to keep her priorities straight at home and at work while trying not to lose her heart to her latest crime victims.

"There's nothing predictable or guaranteed about this life of ours."
                                          ~ Nick Cappuano

That pretty well sums up life with this couple. Which also means there's not much that’s predictable about this book.  It sucked me in from the first page, and then things really got crazy! There wasn’t a dull moment in this one, and I read this book quickly in one setting.  If you’re at all familiar with Marie Force, this won’t come as a surprise.

I have to give a great big thanks to Harlequin for sending me a copy of this book to review. Since I started doing book reviews nearly two years ago, I haven't cracked open an actual paper and ink book in that time. Who knew how re-trained my brain had become?  Let's just say I had some difficulties when certain functions didn't work the same way across all platforms. I blame muscle memory.

MY REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Thirteen books into this series, I see no end in sight."
                                 ~ Marie Force

Could there be any sweeter words a reader can read from the author of one of the most phenomenal series in romantic suspense today?  I’ve been a fan since the very first book, Fatal Affair, eagerly awaiting each new book so I catch up with swoon-worthy Nick and kick-butt Sam.  I’m very grateful to the publisher for providing an early copy of this book so I could be ready with a review on release day. I had no doubt this book would be an excellent read, but each book in this series is somehow better than the last!  The Cappuano house is plenty busy and hectic with Sam's job as a homicide detective and Nick’s as the Vice President if the US, but it's filled with so much love it infuses the reader's heart and draws her right in to the story.

No one knows better than Nick and Sam how life has a way of turning on a dime, which is why this couple is the epitome of unconditional love with a bit of romance thrown in when everything around them might be going off the rails. They hold tight to each other and make their relationship a priority, and their hearts are big enough to embrace family, friends, and those in need and welcome them into their lives.  Nick manages to handle being the second most important man in the country while still being there for his family, especially while Sam is in the middle of an investigation, employing a tactic or two that may ruffle the feathers of her superiors, but she certainly gets the job done.

There’s a lot that happens in this book, but because the books in this series stand alone, you can pick up one without having read those before and not feel like you’ve missed out on important details. Force does a great job of providing enough details of previous events to bring the reader up to speed without giving things away when you go back and read an earlier book.  Every time I read a book in the Fatal series, it’s like catching up with old friends.  From work colleagues and extended family to Sam and Nick and their son Scottie, I’m always eager to find out what's happening in their lives. If you’re a fan of power couples, like J.D. Robb’s Rourke and Dallas, you'll easily fall in love with Nick and Sam.  Even readers who haven’t ventured into romantic suspense will find themselves quickly and easily captivated.  Not only is it suspenseful, intriguing and sexy, but it's heartfelt, poignant and evocative, and guaranteed to leave you with a happy sigh at the end.

Don’t miss this amazing addition to a fantastic series! Get your copy today (links below).  Until next time, dear reader

Much love between the covers,
